Lived-In Party-Girl Makeup at the Marc Jacobs Resort Show

Backstage Beauty Report: Lived-In Party-Girl Makeup at the Marc Jacobs Resort Show

If Marc Jacobs has anything to say about it, 2015 is going to be extremely social: The resort collection he showed in New York City this week was comprised almost entirely of party outfits. To complement all the bold prints, sparkly dresses, and crushed velvet, makeup artist Vincent Oquendo drew his inspiration from the ultimate cool party girl—Penny Lane, Kate Hudson's character in Almost Famous. I spoke to him to find out more about the look and the exact products he used to create it.

"The inspiration for this look is the idea of that glamorous girl who's kind of late to the party and did her makeup really quickly, but she still looks beautiful," said Oquendo. But, somewhat paradoxically, he also wanted it to have a lived-in, morning-after feel—like what would happen if you came home from a party and didn't remove your makeup before bed.

To get both, he started by evening out the models' skin with a light layer of Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation, intentionally avoiding powder "to leave the skin really glow-y." Then he blended a matte bronzer (Marc Jacobs Omega Bronze) into the contours of the cheeks for depth.

For the eyes, he used a combination of light and dark taupe powder shadows from the Marc Jacobs Lolita Style Icon No. 7 palette and Shoe Gazer Style Eye-con Trio. "Marc wanted it to be about the eyes. It was meant to be a tougher look," said Oquendo. To create the lived-in eyeliner, he rimmed the models' inner lash lines (upper and lower) with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. "There wasn't a lot of precision involved," he said. "On top of the lid, I drew the pencil from the outer corner in, which gave it a nice rounded shape. Then I smeared it with my finger." To give the eyes a "greasy" effect, he topped the shadow and liner with a dab of clear lip gloss, then swiped on several coats of black mascara (Marc Jacobs Lash Lifter Gel Mascara).

Oquendo set the brows in place using the Marc Jacobs Brow Tamer and kept lips minimal by dabbing on Marc Jacobs LoveMarc Lip Gel in Understudy, a neutral pale pink shade with a dewy finish. And then the models were ready to hit the town...or rather, the runway.
